Slavery contradicts the ideals outlined in the Declaration
of Independence. It contradicts the ideal about equality, because the idea of
thinking others are unequal and thinking you can own someone contradicts the Declaration.
Slavery, before the Declaration of Independence was written would obviously not
have been contradicting the Declaration of Independence, if there was no
Declaration of Independence but, slavery after the Declaration of Independence
was written would have been contradicting it in many ways. Slavery would be
contradicting the Declaration of Independence, because those slaves may have
never gotten the chance to pursue happiness. Those slaves may have never had
the chance to do something successful with their life and be happy, because if
they were owned by someone, they had no freedom. It is likely that many slaves
never had a chance to do something better with their life like have a family
that they can enjoy. Also, slavery could easily contradict the Declaration, because
of racism, discriminating others, and going against the all men are equal
claim. Thinking that you can own people and treat them like they are inferior,
because of race, is a great example of racism going on through the United
States. Slavery could have been proven to have been going on, because of racism
or just because people were lazy. Slavery was always happening and even still
is so yes, it was contradicting the Declaration of Independence.
